Please note that the following requirements are relevant for candidates attempting Shodan or above for both Senior and Junior students:

  • The candidate must have a current first aid certificate and is responsible to have this renewed as necessary throughout their karate career.

  • Character and the ability to perform as an instructor will be taken into consideration. The candidate will be tested on all previous grading techniques, theory, and kata.

  • The candidate should expect to perform multiple Keages as part of the fitness test.

  • The candidate must be physically fit to perform all techniques i.e., not injured. Any permanent physical disability must be underwritten by a doctor's letter of explanation.

  • Candidates will be tested for an increase in stamina, plus the ability to perform all basic techniques.

  • All techniques may be required in Gyaku.

  • The candidate must be able to teach and explain fully the basic techniques of the grading syllabus including the three initial stages ie., a limber up, warm up and stretch

Supporting evidence of teaching ability via a short unedited video should be submitted to the grading panel before grading. Video length should be no more than 30mins.

KUMITE TEST

In the tradition of Kyokushin, some black belt candidates may wish to take the Kumite test. This is normally held at a Summer Camp or other designated location where the candidate may fight 30,40,50 or 100 opponents.

All candidates must apply to their country's governing board at least six months prior to the test.
